Job description

Scientist – Translational Research

Oxford | On-site | Permanent

Talentmark is partnering with a biotech start-up developing next-generation gene therapies for patients with severe genetic diseases.

As the company continues to grow, they are looking for an Associate Scientist / Scientist to join their highly collaborative research team in Oxford. This is a hands‑on, broad‑ranging role at the heart of the company's translational research programme, working closely with senior scientists to support human and animal normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) experiments, alongside a range of laboratory-based research activities.

The Role:

Your primary focus will be supporting the company's NMP programme, working alongside experienced scientists to prepare and set up perfusion circuits, assist with extended perfusion runs, collect and process samples, and contribute to post‑run analysis. Alongside this, you will gain exposure to a broad range of laboratory techniques (cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology, and histology sample processing) and contribute to experiments supporting therapeutic discovery programmes.

Flexibility is important for this role. Perfusion experiments can run for extended periods and organ availability can be unpredictable. As a result, there may be occasions when you are required to work 12‑hour shifts, including occasional overnight or weekend work. Shift patterns will be planned collaboratively, with time off in lieu provided.

Full training will be provided, and previous perfusion experience is not required.

Your Background:

You don't need extensive research experience or prior knowledge of organ perfusion. Our client is are more interested in your enthusiasm, scientific curiosity, aptitude and willingness to learn.

Essential:
  • Degree qualified in a relevant life sciences discipline (biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, pharmacology or similar).
  • Passionate about building a career in translational biotech research.
  • Comfortable working flexibly around experimental requirements, including 12‑hour shifts and occasional overnight or weekend work.
  • A practical problem‑solver who enjoys working across different laboratory techniques.
Desirable:
  • Laboratory experience gained through a university research project, placement or internship.
  • Practical experience with cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology, histology or animal research.
  • Exposure to organ perfusion or transplantation research.Previous experience or knowledge of gene therapy research.
Why Apply
  • Help develop next‑generation gene therapies that have the potential to transform the lives of patients with genetic diseases.
  • Lead cutting‑edge research using advanced in vitro models, including organoids, 3D cultures and organ‑on‑a‑chip technologies.
  • Join a collaborative, venture‑backed biotech where you'll work alongside expert scientists and have a direct impact on research and innovation.
  • Bonus, private healthcare insurance, life insurance, and an equity options scheme
