About

Our client is a biotech start-up developing cutting-edge cancer therapies by combining AI with advanced T-cell receptor (TCR) screening technologies. Their proprietary platform uses machine learning to rapidly design highly specific TCRs, accelerating the discovery and development of T-cell-based treatments. With strong early traction and a mission to make targeted immunotherapies faster and more precise, the team operates from modern labs in Oxford and works at the intersection of computational biology, immunology, and protein engineering.

The Role

The company is seeking a scientist or senior scientist to lead development and validation of T-cell engagers (TCEs). The role includes both in vitro and in vivo validation and hands-on work across molecular biology, protein science, and immunological assays. You’ll work closely with the founding team and external partners to drive forward ambitious R&D programmes.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead in vitro and in vivo validation of TCEs

• Design and characterise TCRs for proprietary and partnered projects

• Express, purify and analyse proteins using biophysical methods

• Perform molecular biology techniques such as cloning, mutagenesis and library prep

• Maintain tissue cultures, including media preparation and cryopreservation

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet research goals

• Draft and maintain lab protocols

• Support general lab operations and facility maintenance

Requirements

• PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related field

• At least 1–2 years of relevant lab experience (3+ years for senior scientist level)

• Strong experience in validating TCEs through to IND approval

• Skilled in molecular biology techniques, particularly cloning and PCR

• Experience in protein expression, purification and biophysical characterisation

• Familiarity with cell-based assays (flow cytometry, ELISA)

• Experience with NGS data analysis pipelines (R or similar)

• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication

Preferred attributes:

• Proactive, analytical and focused on scientific rigour

• Team-oriented with strong collaboration and feedback skills

• Confident managing multiple projects and solving technical challenges

• Adaptable to a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
