Associate Process Development Scientist, Downstream - Oxford

Role Overview:

This role involves conducting experimental investigations to drive downstream process development of emerging drug candidates, supporting reagents, and establishing production processes for manufacturing and clinical development. Protein purification is central to this role, requiring an understanding of protein characteristics, chromatography, separation techniques, and analytical assessments such as SDS-PAGE and HPLC. The ideal candidate is a strong team player, eager to learn and develop in downstream process development, with robust record-keeping and reporting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experiments, interpret results, and respond accordingly.
  • Follow experimental protocols and prepare reports.
  • Maintain and enhance technical knowledge through self-study, conferences, and training.
  • Keep accurate records in laboratory notebooks and follow company procedures.
  • Operate laboratory equipment safely, report faults promptly, and adhere to health and safety policies.
  • Communicate research findings effectively in meetings and reports.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience in microbial or mammalian expression, biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical, or biopharmaceutical laboratories.
  • Skills in protein purification, microbial culture, aseptic techniques, and basic protein biochemistry or molecular biology.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and record-keeping standards.

Desirable Skills:

  • AKTA purification systems and method design.
  • Molecular biology techniques.
  • Biophysical characterization of proteins.
  • Mammalian expression systems.
  • Knowledge of cGMP and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • Proficiency in laboratory analysis software.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Essential: GCSEs in mathematics, English, and science.
  • Desirable: BSc. or MSc. in protein engineering, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields.
