European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge, UK, seeks a Scientific Developer for 13-month maternity cover. You will build and maintain software infrastructure to support ChEMBL data releases and other resources, collaborating with an international team of scientists and engineers.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in Chemistry, CS, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience in cheminformatics or data engineering applied to life sciences
• Proficiency in Python with cheminformatics libraries (RDKit/Open Babel)
• Experience with relational (SQL) databases
• Familiarity with git/GitHub/GitLab in collaborative environments
• Proficiency with Linux
• Strong communication and collaboration with international partners
• Advanced English language and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scientific workflows for data curation, integration and dissemination (Python/Java pipelines).
• Create innovative solutions to enhance scientific data workflows.
• Maintain and enhance tools for processing and storing chemical/biological data.
• Collaborate with ChEMBL, SureChEMBL and ChEBI teams to improve data quality.
• Integrate external databases (e.g., BindingDB, PubChem) into ChEMBL ecosystem.
• Support database management and administration of database instances.
• Document workflows to improve maintainability and reproducibility.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings with campus partners (Open Targets) and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to training activities and scientific meetings.
