Job summary

EMBL-EBI, located on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge, UK, seeks a Scientific Developer for the Chemical Biology Resources team. The role focuses on building and maintaining software infrastructure to deliver ChEMBL data releases and related services, while supporting other team platforms and collaborating with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.

The position is a 13-month fixed-term maternity cover with a competitive salary and benefits, including hybrid working, relocation

Qualifications

• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker).
• Basic understanding of Java, with a willingness to develop expertise and contribute to Java-based pipelines as needed.
• Experience in using AI-based methods, such as NLP, LLM for efficient data processing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software infrastructure for robust, reliable ChEMBL data releases through streamlined build, packaging, testing and deployment processes.
• Collaborate with ChEMBL, SureChEMBL and ChEBI teams to identify and resolve data inconsistencies and quality issues.
• Integrate computational methodologies into data curation and analysis workflows, including external databases into the ChEMBL ecosystem.
• Document workflows and processes to improve maintainability and reproducibility.
• Support database management and contribute to training and scientific meetings.
