Job summary

We are seeking a Scientific Developer to join EMBL-EBI's Chemical Biology Resources team. The role focuses on developing and maintaining software infrastructure for ChEMBL data releases, built with Python and Java, and involves close collaboration with international scientists and software engineers.

The position offers a 13-month fixed-term maternity cover with hybrid working patterns on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in Chemistry, CS, Bioinformatics, Data Science or related field.
• Experience in cheminformatics or data engineering applied to life sciences.
• Proficiency in Python with cheminformatics libraries (RDKit, Open Babel, InChI, SMILES/SMARTS).
• Experience with relational (SQL) databases.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub/GitLab and collaborative data/software environments.
• Proficient with Linux OS.
• Strong communication and collaboration with international teams.
• Advanced English language and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scientific workflows for data curation, integration and dissemination (Python/Java pipelines).
• Create innovative solutions to enhance scientific data workflows and public data dissemination.
• Manage and enhance scientific software tools for processing and storing data across services.
• Collaborate with ChEMBL, SureChEMBL and ChEBI teams to resolve data quality issues.
• Integrate external chemical and bioactivity databases into the ChEMBL ecosystem.
