Job summary

Dorchester Middle School is seeking a Science Technician (Level 2) to support practical science lessons. This permanent role is 23 hours per week, term-time only, with a pro-rata salary of £25,614 and October/November 2026 start.

The successful candidate will maintain laboratories, prepare equipment, and assist teaching staff across science lessons. The post requires an NVQ Level 2 or above (or equivalent), plus practical laboratory or technical experience.

• Hold a relevant NVQ Level 2 or above, or equivalent experience.
• Have practical laboratory or technical experience.
• Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Be committed to safeguarding and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain laboratories, classrooms, equipment and materials for practical science lessons.
• Set up and assemble apparatus and resources required for teaching activities.
• Support teachers and pupils during practical sessions.
• Maintain equipment and undertake basic repairs where practical.
• Ensure safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and materials.
• Maintain inventories, records and service schedules.
• Assist with ordering, stock control and resource management.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety and COSHH requirements.
