Sharnbrook Academy in Bedfordshire is seeking a highly organised Science Technician to support the delivery of practical science education across the Science Department.

You will prepare materials, maintain equipment, ensure safety compliance, manage stock, and assist staff with cover lessons and admin tasks. The role is 37 hours a week, 39 weeks per year, with Meridian Trust providing support.

Qualifications

• Prepare and provide all materials, resources and equipment for lessons as ordered.
• Maintain equipment, glassware, solutions and label chemicals, ensuring safety.
• Maintain stock levels and perform regular checks of department equipment.
• Ensure health and safety regulations are followed and report issues to Curriculum Lead.
• Undertake stock-taking, ordering, and administrative tasks as required.

Responsabilités

• Prepare, set up and supply materials for practical lessons.
• Maintain lab equipment, glassware and safety data sheets.
• Monitor stock levels and complete order sheets for the department.
• Assist staff covering lessons with resources and follow on any set tasks.

About this Role

Sharnbrook Academy is seeking a highly organised,enthusiastic, and reliable Science Technician to support the delivery ofhigh-quality practical science education across our successful and thrivingScience Department.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Prepare and provide all materials, resources andpractical equipment required for lessons as ordered by the teaching staff.Setting up equipment if requested. These requests will be made by staff onweekly prep request sheets (teaching staff deadline of Thursday for thefollowing week).
• Ensure the proper maintenance of all equipment,glassware, solutions in accordance with good practise and the department safetypolicy, including labelling of any chemicals, hazard information sheets andproviding a supply of distilled water.
• Ensure that correct stock levels are maintained.
• Ensure that the requisite Health and Safetyregulations and Codes of Practice are complied with for the safety of all staffand students, and reporting as required, to the Curriculum Lead.
• Make regular checking of department equipment,fixtures, fittings and services. Reporting any faults to the site team and theCurriculum Lead.
• Maintain textbooks and to provide textbooks inthe classrooms when requested by the teaching staff.
• Undertake stock-taking of stationery, chemicals,glassware, apparatus and textbooks as requested by the Curriculum Lead.Completing order sheets.
• Undertake photocopying as requested by theteaching staff.
• Provide support for any staff covering lessons byproviding them with any cover work set by staff and textbooks, paper, etc.
• Complete various administrative tasks asrequested by the teaching staff, eg, data inputting, filing, etc.
• Clean practical and preparation areas regularly.
• Undertaking and participating in any training asand when required.
