Job summary

Yate Academy, part of Greenshaw Learning Trust, is seeking a proactive Science Technician to support practical science lessons by preparing equipment, maintaining laboratory resources and helping ensure health and safety.

You will coordinate resources across biology, chemistry and physics, supervise stock levels, liaise with suppliers, and assist staff and pupils in the classroom. A meticulous, team-oriented approach is essential.

Responsibilities

• To co-ordinate the day-to-day organisation and development of resources across biology, chemistry and physics
• To contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects.
• To ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment, compiling orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and finance departments. This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels.
• Keeping accurate up-to-date stock records.
• To ensure that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard.
• Preparing equipment of laboratory classes in accordance with given instructions, CLEAPSS and AQA practical guidance.
• Servicing, testing, routine maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment.
• Provide advice and guidance to staff and students on basic technical issues.
• Support staff and students in the classroom environment to assist in the learning process where appropriate.
• Maintaining science classrooms and the prep room to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environment.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

• Able to monitor supplies of resources and equipment and order more when required.
• Communicates clearly, both written and orally and able to undertake clerical and administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.
• Able to work independently, use own initiative and also work constructively as part of a team.
• A passion and desire to drive things forward.
• Be dependable, able to follow instructions and respond to management directions.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety.
• Behaviour management skills.
