Job summary

Longsands Academy, part of Astrea Academy Trust, is seeking a dedicated Science Technician to support the Science department and ensure practical lessons run smoothly and safely. The role is based at Longsands Academy, St Neots, with term-time hours and a 37-hour week.

As a Science Technician you will prepare equipment, assist with practical activities and maintain health and safety across laboratories, supporting teachers and scholars in delivering engaging, practical science education.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a laboratory, educational setting or technical support role is desirable.
• Strong organisational and time management skills are essential.
• Proactive, reliable and adaptable in a busy school setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, organise and maintain equipment, materials and resources for practical science lessons.
• Support teachers and scholars during practical activities, helping to create engaging learning experiences.
• Ensure laboratories, classrooms and preparation areas are maintained to a high standard and ready for use.
• Promote and maintain health and safety practices across the Science department.
• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and cleaning of laboratory equipment and resources.
• Monitor stock levels and manage ordering, receipt and storage of supplies and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records relating to health and safety, servicing schedules and departmental resources.
• Safely handle, store and dispose of chemicals, specimens and waste materials in accordance with current regulations.
• Assist with equipment checks, calibration and minor repairs where appropriate.
• Support departmental audits and contribute to maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.

Key Responsibilities
