Job summary

St George's Academy is seeking a Science Technician to support the Science Department. The role is primarily based at the Sleaford Campus with occasional duties at Ruskington campus.

You will work under the Senior Science Technician to maintain equipment, prepare materials, and assist with practical activities for lessons. A flexible approach and good communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role in education preferred.
• Basic science knowledge relevant to classroom activities.
• Minimum 2 GCSEs including English and Maths or willingness to achieve.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day supervision of the Junior Assistant Science Technician.
• Maintain and clean equipment.
• Prepare displays and exercises.
• Trial practical activities.
• Ensure equipment and materials are available and areas kept clean.

Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Technician to help with the smooth running of the Science Department. Supporting the full Science Department, the role will work mainly at the Sleaford Campus but flexibility is required to work at our Ruskington campus on occasions too.

Whilst we are seeking a Science Technician in this instance, consideration will be given to the option of appointing to the role of Senior Science Technician subject to experience of the successful candidate.

Working under the direction of the existing Senior Science Technician, duties will include but will not be limited to:

• Supporting the day to day supervision of the Junior Assistant Science Technician
• Maintaining and cleaning equipment
• Pre-class preparation for displays and exercises
• Trialling practical activities
• Ensuring equipment and materials are available for staff and that work areas are kept clean and tidy.

A willingness to be flexible, good communication skills and an interest in science are required. Current and relevant knowledge of Health and Safety legislation is considered essential.

You will be required to have experience of working in a similar role and some basic knowledge of science taught in the classroom. The ideal candidate will also hold a minimum of 2 GCSE's to include English and Maths from grade 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent or be able to demonstrate a willingness to work towards achieving these qualifications.

Previous experience within education would be an advantage but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
