Job summary

Matrix Academy Trust is seeking a Senior Science Technician to lead and oversee the safe, efficient operation of the science laboratories and preparation areas at Wednesfield Academy. You will ensure high-quality practical science experiences for students, coordinating stock, equipment maintenance and compliance with COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines.

Qualifications

• Strong practical science knowledge and experience in a laboratory/school technician environment.
• Solid understanding of health and safety requirements (COSHH/CLEAPSS) and safe handling of chemicals.
• Experience with stock control, equipment maintenance, resource management and ordering processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee safe, efficient running of science laboratories and preparation areas.
• Ensure practical lessons are well resourced and maintained to high standards.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and Director of Learning to support high-quality teaching and learning.
• Promote safety, continuous improvement and positive working relationships within the school community.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technician to take a leading role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning across the Science Department. You will work closely with the Director of Learning and teaching staff to ensure that practical lessons are well resourced, equipment is maintained to a high standard, and all health and safety requirements are met.

We are seeking a motivated, organised and proactive Senior Science Technician to lead and oversee the effective, safe and efficient running of our science laboratories and preparation areas.,

• Has strong practical science knowledge and experience working in a laboratory or school science technician environment.
• Has a sound understanding of health and safety requirements, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance, and the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Has excellent organisational skills, with experience of stock control, equipment maintenance, resource management and ordering processes.
• Communicates effectively and builds positive working relationships with teaching staff, colleagues and the wider school community.
• Takes a proactive approach to problem-solving, safety and continuous improvement.
• Is committed to supporting high-quality teaching and learning and enabling students to engage safely in practical science.
