Job summary

Ark Elvin Academy in Greater London is seeking a Laboratory Support role to help monitor classroom standards, uphold health and safety and assist with preparing teaching materials for the science department.

The successful candidate will also support inventory and stock control of teaching equipment, ensuring resources are available for daily lessons and practical demonstrations.

Qualifications

• A Level in science subject (or equivalent) required.
• Health and Safety qualification or commitment to achieve.
• First Aid qualification or commitment to work towards (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Monitor classroom standards and practices and communicate improvements.
• Ensure health and safety standards are maintained following Cleapss codes.
• Prepare teaching materials to support science teaching and learning booklets.
• Assist Senior technician with equipment inventory and stock control.

Working Pattern

Term time only, 36 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

• To monitor standards and practices within the classroom and identify and communicate improvements to working practices to ensure the highest standards are achieved
• Ensure lofty standards of Health and Safety are always maintained Cleapss codes
• Prepare (and where appropriate manufacture) teaching materials as required to ensure effective support for teaching staff in the Science department and specific learning booklets delivered
• Support the Senior technician inventory of equipment and administrating stock control to maintain a supply of equipment for teaching use

Qualifications

• Minimum of A Level Grade C or above (or equivalent) in a science subject, ideally qualified to degree level
• Health and Safety qualification or training or commitment to work towards
• First Aid qualification or training or commitment to work towards (desirable)

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience of working in a laboratory in a school or other industry (desirable)
• Experience, knowledge or a keen interest of key practical demonstrations that demonstrate key scientific concepts and engage students
• Up-to-date knowledge of COSHH procedures and CLEAPPS requirements
• Knowledge of Health & Safety risk assessment, able to deal with minor incidents including first aid
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children and adults
