Job summary

Esteem North Academy in Chesterfield is seeking a dedicated teacher to deliver science to KS3 and Biology to KS4. The post is based at one of the two Chesterfield secondary sites, initially Hasland, with a clear focus on engaging and safe lessons for pupils with behavioural challenges.

Applicants should have experience with disaffected pupils, resilience and a growth mindset. DBS checks apply and flexibility is valued to support the academy's needs.

Job description

Job Title: Teacher

Location: Esteem North Academy - Chesterfield

Grade/Scale: Teacher Pay Scale - MPS / UPS Plus SEN 1

Contract: 32.5 hours per week

We are looking to recruit an experienced and inspiring teacher to join our academy to teach science to pupils in KS3 and Biology to pupils in KS4. The staffing teams are small compared to mainstream schools and the post will suit a Teacher who is willing to be flexible to meet the needs of the pupils and the academy. Both secondary Chesterfield sites will have approximately 110 pupils on roll that are not all on site at the same time and class sizes are small with around 10 pupils. This role will be based at one of the 2 Chesterfield secondary sites, however will be based at the Hasland site initially whilst the new school site in Birdholme is developed. We welcome applications from candidates who are able to teach engaging, innovative, but safe, lessons to challenging and disengaged KS3 and 4 pupils.

Applicants should have good knowledge and experience of working with disaffected pupils in a school or other alternative setting. An affinity for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties is an essential quality for this challenging but rewarding opportunity. Applicants should be resilient, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and think outside of the box. You will be responsible for contributing to a small staffing team to ensure that the site runs smoothly. A growth mindset and positive ethos are essential characteristics that we are looking for.

An allocated base will be named for payment of mileage and any travel calculation between sites for CPD or for engaging in off -site rewards trips etc. Candidates must have access to a car and car insurance with business use included. You may be expected to transport pupils in your own car. All staff may be timetabled to deliver education off site in pupils homes if this is a requirement of the academy.
