Job summary

Oaklea Grange School, near Wrexham, is a specialist independent school for 11-18s with SEMH needs. We offer a nurturing, trauma-informed environment and a stage-not-age curriculum blending academic, vocational, outdoor and community learning.

We seek a permanent, full-time Science Teacher with QTS and significant SEMH experience, capable of delivering engaging lessons, promoting wellbeing, safeguarding and working within a multidisciplinary team to secure positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Significant SEMH teaching experience and/or challenging behaviours.
  • Proven track record with vulnerable learners.
  • Experience teaching post-16 and supporting transitions to further education or work.
  • Vocational teaching experience or relevant qualifications.
  • Experience delivering outdoor education or enrichment activities.
  • Good understanding of the Estyn Inspection Framework.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and resilience; ability to build relationships.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to reflective practice and CPD.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire and engage SEMH learners through creative, personalised teaching approaches.
  • Deliver a curriculum balancing academic achievement with wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.
  • Support learners to achieve recognised qualifications while developing confidence and life skills.
  • Contribute to Oaklea Grange's broad and flexible curriculum, including vocational and outdoor learning.
  • Build partnerships with families, residential care colleagues, external agencies and community organisations.
  • Promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through meaningful learning experiences.
  • Ensure safeguarding, Prevent, Foundations for Safer Care and mandatory training requirements are completed.

Salary: £33,406.11 - £46,195.25 per annum

Hours of Week: 40, Term Time Only

About Oaklea Grange School

Oaklea Grange School, near Wrexham, is a specialist independent school for young people aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We provide a nurturing, trauma-informed environment where pupils are supported to thrive academically, emotionally and socially. Our personalised "stage not age" curriculum combines academic, vocational, outdoor and community-based learning, helping every young person develop the confidence, skills and qualifications needed to achieve their personal best and prepare for a positive future.

Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Significant recent experience teaching children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and/or challenging behaviours.
  • Proven track record of achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable learners.
  • Experience of teaching post-16 learners and supporting successful transitions into further education, employment or training.
  • Vocational teaching experience and/or relevant vocational qualifications.
  • Experience of delivering outdoor education, enrichment activities or experiential learning opportunities.
  • Good understanding of the Estyn Inspection Framework.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional resilience and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding, maintaining professional boundaries and promoting positive behaviour.

As a Science Teacher, you will:
