Job summary

Oaklea Grange School in Wrexham is seeking a Science Teacher to join our SEMH-focused team. The post offers 40 hours per week, term-time only, with a permanent full-time contract and a nurturing, trauma-informed approach.

You will deliver a personalised curriculum, support post-16 transitions, collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues, and uphold safeguarding standards while building strong pupil relationships.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher with QTS and experience teaching SEMH learners.
  • Proven track record of achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable learners.
  • Experience delivering outdoor education and enrichment activities.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional boundary practices.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire and engage SEMH learners through creative, personalised science teaching.
  • Deliver a curriculum balancing academic achievement with wellbeing and life skills.
  • Support learners to achieve recognised qualifications and prepare for adulthood.
  • Contribute to a broad curriculum including vocational and community-based learning.
  • Build partnerships with families, care staff, and external agencies to maximise pupil success.
  • Promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through meaningful learning.

About Oaklea Grange School

Oaklea Grange School, near Wrexham, is a specialist independent school for young people aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We provide a nurturing, trauma-informed environment where pupils are supported to thrive academically, emotionally and socially. Our personalised "stage not age" curriculum combines academic, vocational, outdoor and community-based learning, helping every young person develop the confidence, skills and qualifications needed to achieve their personal best and prepare for a positive future.


Requirements:


  • · Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • · Significant recent experience teaching children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and/or challenging behaviours.

  • · Proven track record of achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable learners.

  • · Experience of teaching post-16 learners and supporting successful transitions into further education, employment or training.

  • · Vocational teaching experience and/or relevant vocational qualifications.

  • · Experience of delivering outdoor education, enrichment activities or experiential learning opportunities.

  • · Good understanding of the Estyn Inspection Framework.

  • · Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional resilience and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships.

  • · Strong commitment to safeguarding, maintaining professional boundaries and promoting positive behaviour.

  • · Ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • · Commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development.


As a Science Teacher, you will:


  • · Inspire and engage young people with SEMH, trauma-related needs and complex learning profiles through creative, personalised teaching approaches.

  • · Deliver a curriculum that combines academic achievement with wellbeing, personal development and preparation for adulthood.

  • · Support learners to achieve recognised qualifications while developing confidence, resilience and essential life skills.

  • · Contribute to Oaklea Grange's broad and flexible curriculum, including vocational, outdoor and community-based learning opportunities.

  • · Build strong partnerships with families, residential care colleagues, external agencies and community organisations to maximise pupil success.

  • · Promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through meaningful learning experiences.

  • · Ensure all safeguarding, Prevent, Foundations for Safer Care and mandatory training requirements are completed and maintained.
