Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a methodical Science Technician to support a busy Science department for Key Stage 3 to 5. You will prepare equipment and chemical solutions, set up practical physics apparatus, and maintain laboratory safety standards across all teaching laboratories.

Reporting to the Senior Science Technician, you will manage stock, calibrate instruments, assist with demonstrations, and help with open evenings.

Qualifications

Qualified to A-Level standard or equivalent in a scientific discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) or holding a recognised qualification in Laboratory and Technical Skills (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3).
Experience as science technician in an educational setting is highly desirable.
Solid understanding of school laboratory health and safety regulations (COSHH/CLEAPSS).

Responsibilities

Prepare chemical solutions, biological specimens, and physics apparatus for lessons.
Uphold safety protocols per COSHH and CLEAPSS; manage safe disposal of waste.
Monitor consumables, glassware, and stock; assist with orders.
Clean, service, and calibrate laboratory instruments; arrange repairs when needed.
Support staff with demonstrations and open evenings; keep prep rooms tidy.
