Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is supporting a progressive secondary school in Barking & Dagenham to recruit a Science Laboratory Technician. You will support Biology, Chemistry and Physics practicals, preparing chemical solutions, calibrating equipment, and maintaining a safe, well-organised prep room to underpin GCSE and A-Level work.

The role is full-time, term-time only plus one week (36 hours per week) with Outer London pay scale and pro-rata benefits including LGPS pension and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Proven laboratory experience in an educational or similar environment.
• Knowledge of CLEAPSS, COSHH and lab safety protocols.
• Strong organisation and attention to detail.
• Ability to support teachers and students in practical work.

Responsibilities

• Practical Preparation: prepare, assemble and test equipment, chemical solutions, specimens and physics apparatus for daily lessons.
• Health & Safety Management: ensure adherence to safety policies and dispose of chemical waste safely.
• Prep Room & Inventory Care: maintain clean prep rooms and monitor stock levels and orders.
• Equipment Maintenance: inspect, clean, calibrate lab instruments and report faults.
• In-Class Technical Support: assist teachers and Sixth Form students during demonstrations and experiments.
