Responsibilities

Position: Science Academic Mentor

Location: Waltham Forest

Start Date: September 2026

Smart Teachers are currently working with a successful secondary school in East London who are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Academic Mentor to join their team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Science graduate, aspiring teacher, or experienced education professional who is passionate about supporting students to achieve their academic potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Science department, providing targeted academic support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will play a key role in helping students develop their confidence, improve their subject knowledge, and make progress in Science.

The Role Includes:
  • Providing small group and 1:1 academic mentoring support in Science
  • Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 with their learning and progress
  • Working alongside classroom teachers to identify areas for development
  • Helping students build confidence, resilience, and independent study skills
  • Delivering targeted intervention sessions to support academic achievement
  • Encouraging a positive attitude towards Science and learning
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • A strong academic background in Science (degree desirable)
  • A passion for supporting young people and education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to motivate and inspire students
  • Experience working with secondary-aged students (desirable but not essential)
