Are you a Youth Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Support Worker or Teaching Assistant with experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour, social and emotional needs? A secondary school in EN3 is looking for a committed and resilient individual to join their team as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, supporting students who may require additional emotional, behavioural and pastoral support. This could be an excellent opportunity for someone with a Youth Work background looking to transfer their skills into a school environment.

The role You will work closely with students who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with education, manage their behaviour and develop positive relationships with staff and peers.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Supporting students with emotional regulation and behaviour
• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
• Helping students engage with their learning
• De-escalating challenging situations calmly and appropriately
• Supporting students during lessons and unstructured periods
• Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff
• Following safeguarding and school behaviour procedures
• Encouraging students to develop confidence, independence and positive behaviours
• Youth Work experience valued

Candidates with previous Youth Work experience may be eligible for a higher rate of pay. Your experience working with young people in areas such as youth centres, community projects, mentoring, residential settings, outreach, early intervention or behavioural support could be highly transferable to this role. You don't necessarily need previous school experience - we're particularly interested in people who have a strong understanding of young people and can build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
