Job summary

St Helens Borough Council is hiring a Passenger Assistant to support pupils with autism and complex learning needs on travel to and from Rectory Church of England Primary School's Orchard Specialist Provision. You will help keep pupils safe, calm, and reassured, building trust with each child.

The role emphasises a patient, caring approach, adaptability, and teamwork with the driver and school staff. DBS checks are required, and experience with SEND is desirable.

Qualifications

• Enhanced DBS check is required.
• Experience of working with children with SEND is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Help pupils travel safely and comfortably to and from school.
• Provide reassurance and support tailored to each pupil's needs during journeys.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
• Respond calmly to changing situations and individual needs on journeys.
• Work alongside the driver and school staff to keep journeys safe and positive.
