Job summary

YMCA South Midlands in Milton Keynes is seeking a compassionate School Mentor to support children and young people across primary and secondary schools. You will build trusting relationships, provide tailored one-to-one mentoring, and help learners overcome barriers to engagement and attendance.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people in youth work, education or mentoring settings.
• Ability to build trusting relationships and provide reflective support.
• Understanding safeguarding responsibilities and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Building positive, trusting relationships with young people, creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.
• Delivering tailored one-to-one mentoring across primary and secondary schools in Milton Keynes.
• Working with young people to understand their needs, identify strengths and set achievable personal goals.
• Supporting young people to build confidence, resilience, emotional wellbeing and positive relationships.
• Helping young people overcome barriers to school attendance, engagement and learning.
• Supporting young people through transitions, especially from primary to secondary school.
• Collaborating with teachers, families and other professionals to provide joined-up support.
• Planning and delivering a summer Youth Voice event and coaching workshops for parents/carers.
• Building partnerships to improve access to Holiday Activities and Food programs.
• Recognising safeguarding concerns and maintaining young people’s safety.
