Job summary

Newcastle City Council operates a School Meals catering team at West Jesmond Primary School, NE2 3AJ. This site-specific post is 16.00 hours per week during term time, Monday to Thursday 10:45–14:00 and Friday 11:00–14:00. DBS checks are required and training will be provided.

Duties include cleaning, food prep support, serving meals, and maintaining service area presentation. Suitable candidates will be reliable, friendly and able to work as part of a team in a school environment.

Qualifications

• Reliable and friendly with a positive attitude to join the School Meals team.
• Experience for higher hour commitments may be discussed at interview.
• Willingness to work as part of a team in a school catering setting.

Responsibilities

• Wash catering equipment and general kitchen cleaning.
• Assist the chef with food preparation and maintain hygiene standards.
• Serve meals to children and describe available meals briefly.
• Keep dining area tidy, set up furniture, and clear away equipment.
• Assist with lifting, bending and carrying as part of daily duties.
• Comply with DBS checks and safeguarding requirements for regulated activity.
