Oswestry School invites applications for an inspiring School Librarian to work alongside teaching staff in our refurbished Library, a central hub for academic life.

The successful candidate will promote literacy and independent study, manage library resources, and support pupils across the 11–18 curriculum. Working hours are 37.5 per week, term-time only, with an informal discussion possible with Mr Rory Price.

Job description

Oswestry School is an independent, co-educational day & boarding school, with an 11-18 Senior School of c.400 pupils and a 4-11 Prep School of just over 100 pupils. The strong ethos of the School is reflected in its strength of pastoral care and sense of community. The School recently underwent inspection, with a very good report. Located in the ancient town of Oswestry in the county of Shropshire, the school was founded in 1407 and, as such, lays claim to being one of the oldest truly independent schools in the country. It is located in a beautiful corner of Shropshire with easy access to the great outdoors as well as good links to the local town of Shrewsbury and the cities of Chester, Manchester and Birmingham.

SCHOOL LIBRARIAN

Oswestry School seeks an inspiring and passionate individual to work alongside teaching colleagues to play a key role in our recently refurbished award-winning Library and ensure that it continues to act as a central hub for the academic life of the school.

The successful candidate will have a zest for learning and be an advocate for literacy, independent study and the power of the written word. As the great Argentine writer once mused, “I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” In the Library at Oswestry School, we aim to create a little slice of paradise for our students, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape that vision and make a significant impact on the educational experience of our pupils.
