Job summary

Churchfield Church School is seeking an enthusiastic, organised Kitchen Manager to run the school kitchen, cook meals and lead the kitchen team. You will work under limited supervision with support from the Headteacher and designated staff.

The role requires a Basic Food Hygiene qualification and experience in food handling, with a focus on nutritious meals, budget awareness and HACCP/COSHH compliance. The Bath & Wells MAT offers a supportive environment and opportunities for training.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with and preparing food.
• Minimum Basic Food Hygiene qualification.
• Trained in food handling.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene practices.
• Understanding health and safety and COSHH requirements.
• Ability to lead, supervise and support a small kitchen team.
• Ability to organise workload and work to strict deadlines.
• Ability to plan within budgets and nutritional guidelines.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic IT skills and ability to maintain records.
• Reliable, patient, flexible and willing to undertake further training.
• Committed to health, safety and welfare of children.
• NVQ or equivalent and school meals experience advantageous.
• First Aid training would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day running of the school kitchen.
• Prepare, cook and serve meals within deadlines.
• Supervise, direct and deploy Kitchen Assistants.
• Support and training of kitchen staff where required.
• Plan day-to-day kitchen activities to meet catering needs within budgets and nutritional guidelines.
• Assist with menu planning and provision of nutritionally balanced meals.
• Cater for different dietary requirements, including allergies.
• Order food and stock; maintain stock records; process invoices.
• Liaise with food provider regarding receipt and handover of food transport boxes.
• Supervise lunchtime food service.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and safety.
• Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely.
• Complete washing up and general kitchen duties.
• Prepare refreshments and beverages when requested.
• Report equipment faults and request resources through School Business Manager.
• Maintain kitchen documentation and records.
• Work in accordance with food handling, food hygiene, health and safety and COSHH requirements.
