Job summary

Scottish Borders Council is recruiting a Janitor to maintain cleanliness and safety at St. Boswells and Newtown St. Boswells Primary Schools.

The role involves cleaning, litter patrol, porter tasks, minor repairs, ensuring security, and opening/closing the buildings, with emergency contact duties outside hours. You will work as part of a supportive team across two sites, with opportunities for professional development within the council’s inclusive culture and a commitment to health and safety,

Qualifications

• Possess a good education level or BICS credentials.
• Be physically fit and able to undertake manual tasks.
• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also displaying self-sufficiency.
• Be able to work flexibly and follow instructions and procedures accurately.
• Have good practical, organisation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining cleanliness of assigned areas, buildings, and facilities.
• Providing assistance with rearranging furniture and supervision as needed.
• Playing an active part in the security and Health and Safety policy of the school.
• Liaising with tradesmen and assisting teachers with practical preparations.
• Managing procurement and ensuring timely supply receipt to support janitorial tasks efficiently.
• Working alongside your team with no supervisory responsibility.
