We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Band 5 Nurse to join our School Nursing Safeguarding Team on a fixed-term contract. As part of our commitment to growing and developing our workforce, we aim to retain the successful candidate and support their progression into the SCPHN (Specialist Community Public Health Nurse) School Nurse pathway.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to apply for a funded SCPHN School Nurse training programme, starting in January 2026, through an internal interview and selection process. This position offers a unique chance to be part of a dynamic team while building a long-term career in school nursing.
The team seeks an enthusiastic and motivated nurse passionate about the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme and safeguarding children and young people. Experience working with children in a community setting and a good understanding of public health are desirable.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a dynamic skill-mix team. Responsibilities include conducting Health Needs Assessments, attending child protection case conferences, core group meetings, and other strategy meetings. To prepare for these duties, a comprehensive competency document will be provided, and the candidate will work unsupervised once deemed competent. They will manage a caseload of primary schools, enabling them to build strong connections and support children and families effectively. Additionally, there will be opportunities to visit other teams within the service for broader exposure and professional development.

The post-holder will be an integral part of a multi-skilled school nurse team, working collaboratively to deliver a public health-focused, needs-led, and equitable service to children and young people in Lewisham. They will liaise closely with school staff, community paediatricians, health visitors, GPs, and other professionals to ensure effective service delivery.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum, plus HCAS, pro-rata (Term Time Only).
