Job summary

ASAPA Secondary School in Newham is seeking a reliable Facilities Assistant to join the site team. You will work with the Site Manager to maintain a safe, clean and welcoming school environment, performing general maintenance, minor repairs and set up for lessons and events.

The role requires practical DIY skills, the ability to work independently or with others, good communication and a proactive, hands-on approach to day-to-day premises tasks, with a strong focus on health and safety.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, caretaking or site-based role.
• Good practical and DIY skills.
• A proactive and hands-on approach to work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Understanding of health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site.
• Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day running of the premises.
• Ensuring classrooms, communal areas and external spaces are safe and well maintained.
• Setting up and moving furniture and equipment for lessons and school events.
• Carrying out regular site checks and reporting any issues or hazards.
• Assisting with deliveries, contractors and visitors when required.
• Supporting the opening and closing of the school site.
• Helping to maintain high standards of health and safety across the premises.
• Responding promptly to facilities and maintenance requests.
• Carrying out other general site duties as required.
