We are seeking a proactive, practical, and dependable Site Assistant to join our busy premises team across a thriving secondary academy campus in Bromley. Reporting to the Premises Manager, the successful candidate will assist with daily site security, general caretaking, reactive maintenance, porterage, and health and safety checks to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Set on an expansive campus featuring modern academic blocks, specialist science suites, indoor sports halls, and extensive outdoor playing fields, this secondary academy serves over 1,200 pupils aged 11–18 in South East London. Operating within a supportive Multi-Academy Trust framework, the school places high value on maintaining safe, high-quality physical infrastructure. The site operations team works collaboratively to support the daily running of the academy, school events, and community lettings.
Site Security & Access: Assist with morning opening and evening closing routines, locking access gates, setting security alarms, and conducting security patrols across the campus.
Maintenance & Minor Repairs: Carry out basic handyperson duties and reactive fixes, such as unblocking sinks, replacing light fittings, assembling furniture, painting touch-ups, and minor carpentry.
Porterage & Event Setup: Move heavy deliveries, distribute supplies to departments, and arrange furniture in halls and classrooms for internal assemblies, examinations, parent evenings, and external lettings.
Health & Safety Compliance: Assist with routine compliance logging, including weekly fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, water temperature monitoring, and maintaining clear emergency exit routes.
Grounds & Caretaking Support: Keep the grounds tidy, manage waste disposal and recycling zones, clear litter, and perform seasonal site tasks such as pathway gritting and clearance during winter months.
Qualifications: Practical trade knowledge or general maintenance background. Basic certifications in COSHH, Manual Handling, or First Aid are desirable.
Experience: Previous experience in caretaking, site maintenance, or facilities support within an educational, public sector, or commercial setting is preferred.
Skills: Hands‑on DIY capability, good physical fitness for active daily tasks, strong reliability, and a polite, helpful manner when interacting with school staff and pupils.
