Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a relief School Crossing Patrol to ensure the safety of children crossing roads on the way to and from school. The role involves standing outdoors in all weathers, communicating clearly with pupils and drivers, and wearing a provided uniform. DBS check will be required and costs covered by the employer.

Training is provided, with duties notified as required to cover sickness, holidays and ad hoc call-outs at short notice, and there is no guaranteed weekly hours.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication with children and drivers
• Ability to work outdoors in all weathers
• Safe crossing awareness and road safety knowledge

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe road crossing for children and pedestrians during patrol times
• Stop traffic using the official STOP sign
• Conduct pre-duty health and safety checks of the crossing site
• Report hazards, equipment issues, or site concerns to Patrol Officer
