School Crossing Patrol Officer - Unity Academy, Colchester

Permanent, Part Time

£13.00 per hour

Location: Colchester

Support your local community by joining Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team at Unity Academy, Hickory Avenue, Colchester. Your role will involve assisting children crossing the road during morning and afternoon periods, ensuring pedestrian safety.

We seek punctual, reliable, approachable individuals who enjoy engaging with the public.

This position is approximately 7.5 hours per week, including holiday pay. You will work during the 39-week academic year, roughly 45 minutes in the morning (08:00 - 09:00) and afternoon (14:45 - 15:45), depending on site needs. Uniform, equipment, and training are provided.

Responsibilities

• Consider the needs of disabled pedestrians, especially those with mobility impairments.
• Maintain contact with the schools served by the crossing.
• Assess risks regularly and report issues to your supervisor.
• Assist in preparing reports on accidents or incidents at the crossing.
• Maintain the condition of uniform and equipment, requesting replacements as needed.
• Give clear signals to drivers, ensuring pedestrians can cross safely.
