Job summary

The Supply Register is recruiting for a School Cook in Penzance to join the school's catering team. This temporary role offers 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday during term time, with a pay rate of £15.34 per hour and a start date ASAP.

School Cook - Penzance

Location: Penzance


Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)


Pay: £15.34 per hour


Start Date: ASAP


Contract: Temporary with the potential to become permanent


The Supply Register is recruiting on behalf of one of our partner schools in Penzance for an enthusiastic and reliable School Cook to join their catering team.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cook who enjoys preparing nutritious, high-quality meals and wants to make a positive impact on the school community.


The Role


  • Preparing and serving healthy, nutritious meals in line with school food standards.

  • Planning and preparing menus where required.

  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.

  • Managing food stock, deliveries and stock rotation.

  • Ensuring all food is prepared and served safely.

  • Complying with Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.

  • Working effectively as part of the school's catering team.

  • Creating a positive dining experience for pupils and staff.


The Ideal Candidate


  • Previous experience working as a Cook, School Cook or within a catering environment.

  • A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

  • Knowledge of food safety and allergen regulations.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Friendly, reliable and committed to providing an excellent catering service.


Essential Compliance Requirements


  • Provide a full employment history covering the last 24 months.

  • Provide a minimum of two employment references (three if you have not previously worked with children).

  • Complete an Employment History Form covering every month from leaving full-time education.

  • Provide character references where required to cover any gaps in employment.

  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.

  • Provide proof of right to work in the UK.

  • Provide two proofs of address, proof of National Insurance and any relevant name change documentation.

  • Complete our free mandatory safeguarding and compliance training.
