Job summary

Chartwells, part of Compass Group UK&I, is recruiting for a kitchen unit lead to oversee catering services within a school environment. The role focuses on managing a small team, ensuring high standards of food preparation, service and cost control during term-time (43.6 weeks per year).

You’ll work Monday to Friday with a salary of £28-30k, depending on experience, and access to a range of staff benefits, including a contributory pension and free meals on site.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years catering experience in a similar environment.
• Basic Food Hygiene certificate is essential.
• Excellent financial acumen and cost-control awareness.
• Proven experience leading and managing a small team.

Responsibilities

• Organise and supervise the unit to Compass Group standards.
• Oversee food preparation and service to quality specifications.
• Manage stock, resources and team to ensure efficiency.

What You'll Be Doing

To organise and supervise the unit in accordance with and to the standards required by Compass Group UK & Ireland, the contract specification and statutory Regulations. To be responsible for the overall efficient and effective management of the unit under their control providing a quality service. Responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of food to agreed standards and specification. To ensure the efficient and economic use is made of all resources, including stock, team members and company assets.
