Job summary

Education Authority in Bangor is seeking a Catering Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of school kitchens across Down area. You will supervise a catering team, manage menus, ensure food safety, and deliver high-quality meals for children and staff.

The role requires HACCP knowledge, budgeting and stock control, awareness of special diets, and strong leadership. You will report to the Regional Operations Manager and work a 30-hour week with term-time and holiday coverage as required.

Qualifications

• Hold NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1/706-2 or equivalent, or two years’ catering experience.
• Proven ability to supervise or manage a catering team and control budgets.
• Knowledge of HACCP and handling special diets, allergens and ethnic diets.
• Willingness to undertake job-related training and have access to transport for mobility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day kitchen operations and service points delivering meals.
• Organise food service, supervise dining centres and transport meals if needed.
• Ensure compliance with HACCP, food safety and allergen records up to date.
• Control stock, ordering, waste minimisation and safe equipment operation.
• Promote catering services to parents, principals, pupils and customers.
• Communicate with school staff and report customer complaints to Regional Operations Manager.
• Carry out risk assessments (including Fire Risk) and lead staff training.
• Oversee staff rotas, discipline, attendance and performance appraisals.
