Job summary

Education Authority in Northern Ireland is seeking a Catering Manager to lead the day-to-day kitchen operations for children, young people, and staff. You will supervise the catering team, ensure safety and quality across menus, and coordinate service delivery with school stakeholders.

You will manage food safety, allergen controls, budgeting, and staff development, while promoting the catering service to boost meal uptake and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Hold NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent, or two years’ demonstrable experience in catering.
• Evidence of effective supervision or management of a catering team.
• Demonstrable experience in stock control, budget management and financial controls.

Responsibilities

• Execute skilled cooking activities and innovations across menus, including dietary modifications and special events.
• Organise and supervise all aspects of food service and transportation of meals if required.
• Manage dining centre kitchens and production kitchen operations with adherence to food safety standards.
• Follow HACCP and Health & Safety regulations; manage allergens and dietary requirements.
• Record temperatures and maintain required logs; manage deliveries, storage and stock-take to minimise waste.
• Ensure safe operation of kitchen equipment and report defects.
• Promote the catering service to parents, principals, pupils and customers to increase uptake of meals.
• Establish communication with the school on service delivery and handle complaints with the Regional Operations Manager.
• Conduct risk assessments and maintain training records; ensure regular staff meetings.
