Job summary

Manchester City Council is hiring a Caretaker to keep the school site safe, secure, clean and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors. The role focuses on maintaining buildings and grounds to a high standard, ensuring compliance and a welcoming learning environment.

The successful candidate will be proactive, reliable and able to work independently while building positive relations with staff and contractors. Experience in caretaking and health & safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaking, site maintenance or premises management duties.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements and maintaining a safe environment.
• Ability to carry out minor repairs, maintenance tasks and routine inspections.
• Good organisational and communication skills, able to work independently and in a team.
• Experience in managing site security, opening/closing premises and emergencies.
• Commitment to providing a high-quality service and safe environment for pupils and staff.

Responsibilities

• Undertake minor repairs, maintenance tasks and basic DIY across the school site.
• Monitor the condition of buildings, grounds and equipment, reporting issues.
• Carry out health and safety checks, including fire safety and site compliance inspections.
• Collaborate with school leaders, staff, contractors and providers to keep the site safe.
• Support site improvement projects and planned maintenance programmes.
