Job summary

Palladian Academy Trust is seeking a motivated School Caretaker to join our Estates team across BANES. The role involves opening and closing school sites, carrying out maintenance, and supporting safety and compliance. Part-time split shifts are offered, with term-time weeks plus one extra week of holiday work.

Hours are 7:00–10:00am and 3:00–6:00pm, across 40 weeks per year. Training is provided, and you will be the first and last face at the school each day, ensuring a welcoming, safe

Qualifications

• Experience in site maintenance, caretaking, or facilities management.
• Knowledgeable in health & safety and building compliance requirements.
• Skilled in a range of practical DIY tasks including plumbing, decorating and repairs.
• Highly organised, able to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment.
• A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
• Calm and effective in emergency situations.
• Trustworthy, discreet, and able to handle confidential information.
• Professional, reliable, and committed to high standards.
• Emotionally intelligent, with the ability to manage sensitive situations appropriately.
• Experience in a school setting is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the security, safety, and general upkeep of school buildings and grounds
• Open and close school sites
• Carry out a range of maintenance and repair tasks (e.g. plumbing, decorating, repairs)
• Respond promptly to reactive and unplanned maintenance issues
• Conduct health & safety checks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
• Oversee and liaise with external contractors, ensuring adherence to RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
• Support Trust-wide estates projects, compliance tasks, and site improvements
• Cover absence and provide support across other Trust schools where required
• Utilise school holiday periods to complete planned maintenance and improvement works
