Job summary

Vision for Education is recruiting a School Caretaker in Newcastle upon Tyne to keep the school site safe, secure and functioning daily during term time. Immediate start with full-time hours and duties covering maintenance, security and setting up rooms for activities.

The role requires practical hands-on experience, reliability and a proactive approach to health and safety, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or similar role.
• Strong DIY and maintenance abilities with practical problem-solving.
• Good knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
• Ability to identify issues and take appropriate action.
• Flexible and proactive approach with good organisation.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and repairs across the site.
• Perform regular checks of buildings, grounds, and facilities.
• Address health and safety issues and escalate when needed.
• Ensure premises are secure and ready for use each day.
• Assist with opening and closing the site as required.
• Carry out general grounds maintenance and keep external areas tidy and presentable.
• Support with deliveries and moving equipment.
• Prepare rooms for school activities and liaise with contractors.
• Follow health, safety and safeguarding procedures at all times.
