Job summary

Hoop Recruitment LTD is recruiting a School Caretaker / Premises Assistant in Caerphilly. The role is full-time, term-time, with a split shift of morning opening and afternoon/evening closing. Salary is £92.56 per day with weekly pay.

You will open the school, secure the site, perform routine maintenance and support health and safety across the premises. Experience in caretaking or facilities maintenance is preferred; good DIY, security awareness, and the ability to work independently are

Responsibilities

• Open and unlock the school premises each morning.

• Report significant maintenance or health and safety issues.
• Set up and move furniture and equipment as needed.

• Monitor heating, lighting and alarms; support health and safety.

We are currently recruiting for a School Caretaker / Premises Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the Caerphilly area.

This role would suit someone with experience in caretaking, premises management, facilities, building maintenance, property maintenance or general repairs, who is looking for an opportunity to work within a school environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for opening the school in the morning and securing and closing the premises in the afternoon, helping to ensure the school site is safe, secure, clean and well maintained throughout the day.

The Role

• Opening and unlocking the school premises each morning
• Securing and locking the school at the end of the day
• Carrying out daily security and safety checks
• Ensuring the school premises are safe and well maintained
• Completing general building and property maintenance
• Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance tasks
• Reporting any significant maintenance or health and safety issues
• Setting up and moving furniture, equipment and resources around the school
• Assisting with the general upkeep and presentation of the school site
• Monitoring basic site services such as heating, lighting and alarms
• Supporting health and safety procedures across the premises
• Assisting with grounds maintenance when required
• Maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors

About You

We are looking for a reliable, practical and hands-on individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe and well-presented environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in a caretaker, premises, facilities, maintenance or similar role
• Good practical and DIY skills
• Experience carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance
• A good understanding of health and safety
• Strong awareness of site security
• The ability to work independently and use your own initiative
• Good organisational and time-management skills
• A friendly and approachable manner when dealing with staff, pupils and visitors
• The ability to work effectively as part of a school team
• Reliability and punctuality
• The flexibility to work a split-shift pattern

Previous experience working within a school or education setting would be desirable but is not essential.
