Job summary

Network Rail Training, part of Network Rail, is advancing blended learning with digital simulations, new tech systems and modern training delivery across UK routes. This role focuses on delivering digital projects, owning RAID logs and governance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure milestones are met.

You will report to senior stakeholders, manage risk, and travel as required to support nationwide implementations in a dynamic, safety‑driven environment.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering tech-oriented projects, preferably in training tech or railway.
• Experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Experience owning project documentation (RAID logs, project plans, governance).

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, execution and delivery of digital projects and workstreams.
• Utilise Agile, Scrum or other PM methodologies to drive efficiency.
• Support development/implementation of digital solutions across the portfolio.
• Collaborate with suppliers, PMO and in-house teams to meet milestones.
• Own project documentation, RAID logs and governance artifacts.
• Lead PM meetings with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Monitor risks and provide proactive mitigation strategies.
• Deliver progress reports and presentations to senior management.
• Capture and disseminate lessons learned for future projects.

About The Role

• Contract type - Permanent
• Salary: Band 4.B - £35,582 - £43,400 per annum
• Location: Nationwide - any Network Rail corporate office location.

The Digital Transformation team within Network Rail Training is developing blended learning solutions that includes digital simulations, new technology systems and ways of working. Enabling our Network Rail colleagues gain and retain skills using the latest technology, allowing for more flexibility and improved learning outcomes for learners.

The Digital Transformation team within Network Rail Training is developing blended learning solutions that includes digital simulation, new technology systems and ways of working, ensuring our Network Rail colleagues gain and retain skills supported by the latest technology. This transformative approach to training delivery will allow for more flexibility and lead to improved outcomes for our learners. The team is currently developing and delivering several digital solutions and is surrounded by development and implementation of the latest technology.

The team is currently supporting the East Coast Digital Programme as training partner to deliver European Railway Traffic Management System training to the frontline workforce across the Route . This work will grow as other Routes and Regions adopt the digital technology. The team also works closely with SME and learning design colleagues developing digital training solutions, making the role an exciting one; surrounded by the development and implementation of the latest technology in both railway and learning.

As a Scheme Project Manager, you will play a vital role in successful project delivery. You will lead projects and workstreams within Network Rail Training's Digital Transformation Portfolio. This includes creating and owning project documentation, owning RAID logs and project plans, reporting to senior stakeholders and collaborating with cross functional teams to mitigate and manage interdependencies.

As this is a national role, reliant on strong stakeholder management, there may be a requirement to travel.

Your Experience And Skills

What the role could look like:

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of digital projects and workstreams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder requirements.
• Utilise Agile, Scrum, or other digital project management methodologies to drive efficiency and adaptability in project execution.
• Support the development and implementation of digital solutions, including software applications, learning platforms, across the wider Digital Transformation Portfolio.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including suppliers, project management office, and in house technical teams to ensure project milestones are met.
• Own project documentation, including RAID logs, project plans and governance documentation.
• Lead project management meetings with cross functional stakeholders to drive projects forward.
• Monitor and manage project risks, providing proactive solutions to address technical and operational challenges through collaborating with other workstreams across the programme.
• Deliver regular progress reports, updates, and presentations to key stakeholders and senior management.
• Capture, document, and disseminate lessons learned to improve future digital project performance.

An Ideal Candidate Would Have

• Proven experience in delivering technology-oriented projects, preferably within the training technology or railway sectors.
• Experience with agile and waterfall methodologies.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.
• Proven experience owning key project documentation, such as RAID logs, project plans and governance documentation.

It Would Also Be Beneficial To Have

• Experience in managing software development, digital learning platforms, or SaaS solutions.
• Commercial and financial understanding and knowledge.
• Relevant project management qualifications (e.g., APM, PRINCE2, Agile, or equivalent) are desirable.
