Job summary

SR2 REC LTD is seeking an experienced Technical / Solution Architect to shape technology solutions in a government-facing environment. You will turn business needs into practical designs and drive architecture decisions from discovery to delivery, with AWS and security at the core.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, engineers and partners, producing HLDs/LLDs and guiding teams through governance rounds to ensure alignment with approved architectures.

Technical / Solution Architect - SC Cleared

SR2 is looking for an experienced Technical / Solution Architect to shape technology solutions within a complex government-facing environment. You'll bring strong architectural judgement, confidence working with senior stakeholders and a track record of taking designs through formal approval into delivery.

The Role

You'll turn business needs into practical technical designs, taking responsibility for architecture decisions from early discovery through implementation and operational handover.

Working alongside business stakeholders, engineers and delivery partners, you'll assess options, challenge assumptions and establish a clear technical direction. The environment is predominantly AWS, with a strong emphasis on security, resilience and architectural governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead solution design throughout the delivery lifecycle, balancing business objectives, technical constraints, cost and operational needs.
• Produce high-level and low-level designs, options assessments and supporting architecture documentation.
• Run discovery and design workshops, translating complex requirements into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Present proposals to design authorities and architecture review boards, addressing feedback and securing approval.
• Guide engineering teams through implementation, checking that delivery remains consistent with agreed designs and standards.
• Identify and manage architectural risks, integration dependencies and technical debt, embedding security, performance and supportability into designs.

Essential

• Substantial experience as a Technical or Solution Architect, with clear personal accountability for architecture decisions and outcomes.
• Active SC clearance, or SC clearance that has been used within the last 12 months.
• Experience designing solutions in AWS and modern cloud environments.
• A strong track record of producing HLDs, LLDs and options papers for complex technology programmes.
• Experience securing design approval through formal architecture governance forums.
• Confident stakeholder engagement, including presenting recommendations to senior decision-makers.
• Experience working across engineering teams, suppliers and business functions throughout implementation.
• Familiarity with structured architecture methods, design standards and assurance processes.

Desirable

• UK public sector experience, particularly within central government, defence or policing.
• Experience delivering large-scale transformation, cloud migration or legacy modernisation.
• Knowledge of TOGAF-aligned architecture practices.
• Experience working within secure, regulated or multi-supplier environments.
