Job summary

allpay Limited in Hereford is seeking a full-time Sales Ledger Controller to join the Finance Operations Team. You will support the sales ledger function, oversee credit control, and handle payroll processing across two monthly payrolls.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience within an accountancy or finance environment, ideally in a Sales Ledger, Credit Control, or similar role.
• AAT qualification (preferred) or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience supervising, supporting, or leading a team with the ability to motivate others.
• Strong understanding of sales ledger processes, credit control activities, financial controls, and payroll administration.
• Knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and payroll best practices.
• Excellent accuracy and attention to detail, with a commitment to high standards.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong IT skills with Excel, Word and Outlook; experience with accounting, finance and payroll systems.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial and employee information discreetly.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily banking activities, including posting receipts and reconciliations.
• Generate and submit Direct Debit payment files and other monthly submissions.
• Maintain client accounts, including set-up and direct debit details.
• Complete month-end sales ledger activities with reconciliations and balance sheet controls.
• Ensure sales ledger procedures are documented and updated.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes and controls.
• Lead invoicing-related projects and system developments as Finance lead.
• Support the annual external audit with information and responses.
• Ensure all sales ledger records and documentation are accurate.
• Prepare payroll information for review, including overtime and pension deductions.
• Lead and develop the Credit Control Team through coaching and performance management.
