Job summary

Universal Business Team is recruiting a Sales Director in Reading, Berkshire. You will lead the Sales, Business Development and Estimating functions to secure profitable projects, manage a rolling pipeline and drive growth across sectors.

The role reports to the Managing Director and focuses on strategic client relationships, tendering, and margin protection. The position offers £120,000–£150,000 per year (negotiable), plus profit share and a company car or car allowance, reflecting a hands-on

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading sales and business development in project-based environments.
• Experience selling to main contractors, developers or fit-out specialists.
• Evidence of building and sustaining an order book and margins.
• Strong commercial acumen including pricing, margins and payment terms.
• Experience overseeing estimating and tendering with cost challenge capability.
• Disciplined approach to forecasting, CRM and pipeline reporting.
• Leadership skills with ability to develop talent and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Own and grow the order book, delivering value in line with the business plan.
• Build forward order cover and secure projects early to support delivery.
• Improve conversion from enquiry to tender and tender to contract.
• Develop strategies for key accounts and strategic clients.
• Lead Sales, Business Development and Estimating as a coordinated function.
• Maintain accurate tender submissions and reflect real costs in estimates.
• Provide regular reporting on pipeline movement and performance.
• Guide leadership in forecasting, planning and cashflow management.
