Job description

Want to help us build the world’s best childcare service?

Please note: We are remote-first. You can choose to work from our office or remotely but you will need to attend the office from time to time for team and company events.

About Koru Kids

At Koru Kids we have a triple mission: to support working parents during the hardest years of their life, to give children the best possible childhood to allow them to flourish as adults, and to create really great jobs for childcarers. We’re a marketplace, which means we have two customers: people who look after children and families. The challenge is massive, but our team is really good.

Our business is growing fast and we’ve delivered over 3M hours of childcare. We’re backed by strong investors and top-class VC’s. Our culture is informal, hard-working and kind. The team is an A+ when it comes to talent and our “no dickheads” rule means we’re also a humble and supportive bunch. We’re also really committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing and building a company we are truly proud of.

We take great care with who we hire and all team members are superbly talented and really nice. If you’re brilliant AND humble, you’ll fit right in.

About the role

This is a sales role — but not the sleazy kind. You’ll talk to families who are actively looking for childcare. Your job is to help them move forward: quickly, clearly, and confidently. You’ll follow up fast, close conversations decisively, and learn what works so the whole team can improve.

Specifically, you’ll be responsible for converting potential family-nanny matches into successful placements. This is a target-driven role where your success will be measured by your ability to guide families through the decision-making process and achieve our conversion goals:

  • 30% interview-to-handover rate within three weeks
  • 60% trial-to-offer rate within two weeks

Most of your time will be spent engaging with families to understand their unique needs and challenges, then demonstrating how our nannies can address those specific needs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all sales approach, you’ll practice situational selling – getting under the skin of each family’s unique situation, addressing their concerns, and helping them see why Koru Kids is the right solution for them.

You’ll need to manage your own pipeline of potential matches, prioritise your time effectively, and take initiative to move families through the decision-making process. The role requires a perfect balance of sales drive and emotional intelligence – you’ll need to hit targets while being sensitive to the mental load that parents are carrying.

We’ll give you all the training and support you need to do the job really well. In particular, you’ll learn advanced techniques in consultative selling and decision facilitation. You’ll have the freedom to experiment and improve the way we do things.

The role can be mostly remote, but there is the opportunity to work from our office in Old Street, London, if you’d prefer.

About you:

You’re a motivated self-starter with a natural drive to achieve results, balanced by genuine empathy. You’re driven by results but understand that the best way to achieve them is by truly understanding customers’ needs. We’re after someone who can balance commercial drive with care and consideration.

You’ll be great at this job if:

  • You’ve sold something before—urgently. Tutoring, estate agency, fitness memberships, or similar
  • You’ve felt the rush of momentum when a customer says yes
  • You want to grow fast in your career. You’re not afraid of ambition
  • You take action when others wait
  • You follow up when others give up
  • You don’t wilt when things get uncomfortable—you lean in

You must be eligible to work in the UK.

Essential Skills and Behaviours
  • Sales Driven : You love the thrill of closing deals and meeting targets. You’re persistent and resourceful in finding ways to move conversations forward.
  • Consultative Approach : You ask smart questions that help families articulate their needs, even when they’re not entirely clear themselves.
  • Active Listener : Although you can talk persuasively, your real superpower is listening. You pick up on subtle cues and concerns.
  • Problem Solver : You can quickly identify objections and barriers to conversion and address them effectively.
  • Multi-channel Communicator : You’re equally comfortable on the phone or crafting the perfect email that gets results.
  • Self-Motivated : You manage your own workload, prioritise effectively, and don’t need constant supervision to hit your targets.
  • Resilient : You bounce back from rejections and learn from every interaction.
  • Team Player : You share insights and collaborate to improve overall team performance.
  • Empathetic : You genuinely understand the stress and challenges parents face and can relate to their situation.
  • Detail-Oriented : You’re able to track and update multiple conversations and follow up at the right times.
  • Adaptable : You understand that startups are unpredictable environments and can roll with changes.
  • Growth Mindset : You thrive on learning, actively seek feedback, and constantly look for ways to improve your conversion rates.
  • Culturally Aligned : You fit right into our culture of supporting each other while driving business growth.
What success looks like
  • Families matched to nannies quickly and effectively
  • Calls that close in one or two steps, not six
  • Learning shared across the team
  • A reputation as someone who gets results and does things right
A typical day

9am – You grab a cup of coffee and join the company-wide (video) standup to hear what’s been going on across the business. You then jump on another quick zoom with your Team Lead to review yesterday’s conversion rates and discuss today’s target families. You get a quick refresher on key selling points for different family scenarios to help you hit your goals for the day.

9.30am – You check your dashboard and celebrate – four families you’ve been nurturing through the process have offered jobs to nannies overnight! You’ve already hit 20% of your weekly target. You quickly process their job offers to ensure contracts are sent out promptly, keeping your conversion pipeline moving.

10am – You’re on the inbound phone line this morning and take calls from a couple of nannies who haven’t heard back from families after trials. You gather detailed feedback about how the trials went and identify potential objections the families might have. You make notes to address specific concerns about pricing questions during your follow-up calls with those families later today – you’re confident you can turn these into conversions with the right approach.

11am – Your inbox is filled with responses from yesterday’s targeted SMS campaign. You prioritise families who are showing the strongest buying signals and craft personalised, action-oriented responses addressing their specific concerns. For each message, you include a clear call-to-action designed to move them to the next stage in the conversion funnel.

12pm – You have a scheduled call with a family who is about to return to work following maternity leave. They are feeling overwhelmed about childcare decisions and all of the paperwork. You love calls like this as you know that Koru Kids takes away the mental load on all of this stuff. You can’t wait to reassure the family that we take care of it all using our app. During the call, you practice active listening to uncover their deeper concerns, then confidently explain how our platform removes the administrative burden they’re worried about. You end the call with a commitment from them to interview two nannies this week.

1pm – A well-earned break after a productive morning! You grab some food and step outside to recharge.

2pm – Your Team Lead runs a session on improving interview-to-offer conversion techniques. The team shares success stories and troubleshoots common objections. You contribute insights from a recent successful conversion with a particularly hesitant family and volunteer to work with the product team on implementing a small change that could boost conversion rates. You set a reminder to track results over the next two weeks.

3pm – You return to your pipeline management, focusing on families who recently conducted interviews. Using your consultative approach, you reach out to both families and nannies to gather feedback on how the interviews went. For promising matches, you proactively suggest trial dates, emphasising the benefits of seeing the nanny in action with their children. Your persuasive but empathetic approach results in two trial bookings.

4pm – You receive a high-priority lead from the customer support team – a family whose nanny just gave notice and needs an urgent replacement. You recognise this as a hot lead with high conversion potential and immediately take ownership. Within 30 minutes, you’ve prepared a personalised selection of nanny profiles based on their specific needs, called the family to establish rapport, and guided them through next steps, emphasising the speed and quality of our matching process.

5pm – You focus on your highest-value opportunity: families who have completed trials but haven’t yet made offers. You notice a pattern in their hesitation and develop targeted responses to address these common concerns. During your follow-up calls, you skillfully overcome objections and guide two families to make offers – including one for a challenging 30-hour role with specific requirements that has been a struggle to fill. You send a note on slack sharing your top tips and the team share in your success.

5.45pm – The phone lines are closed, so you review your day’s metrics against targets. You’ve increased your personal conversion rate and added valuable insights to the team’s knowledge base. You update your lead tracker with detailed notes on each family’s status and plan tomorrow’s priority actions before signing off, feeling satisfied with all the families you have managed to help today.

Below is a short video featuring a conversation between two Koru Kids leaders, Rachel and Sam. In it they discuss the role, the team, what the day to day might look like and what kind of person would be successful in this role.
