Job summary

Stuart Road Surgery in Pontefract is seeking a salaried GP to join our practice of around 7,100 patients. The role involves morning and afternoon surgery sessions, plus telephone consultations and home visits. You will assess undiagnosed problems, sign repeat prescriptions electronically, and develop care plans in line with guidelines.

On-call duties and ongoing professional development are included. Newly qualified GPs are welcome to apply, and tier 2 sponsorship may be available.

Qualifications

• Valid GMC registration is essential.
• Experienced or newly qualified GP (both considered).
• Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions within guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide morning and afternoon surgery consultations and telephone consultations.
• Perform home visits and assess undifferentiated problems.
• Check and sign repeat prescriptions; issue computer-generated prescriptions.
• Develop care plans following disease management protocols.
• Admit, discharge and refer to other care providers as needed.
• Record notes clearly and code clinical information.
• Cover on-call rota when required.
• Follow practice policies on prescribing and data protection.

Job description

A salaried GP post at Stuart Road Surgery, a GP and nurse training practice with around 7,100 patients. The work is morning and afternoon surgery sessions, with telephone consultations, home visits, repeat prescribing and an on-call rota when required. The practice runs on SystmOne and seeks a GP for about six sessions a week, with tier 2 sponsorship possible. A valid GMC registration is essential, and newly qualified doctors are welcome to apply.

What the job involves

• Provide surgery consultations, telephone consultations and home visits in morning and afternoon sessions
• Assess undifferentiated or undiagnosed problems and make autonomous clinical decisions
• Check and sign repeat prescriptions and issue computer-generated prescriptions, avoiding handwritten ones
• Develop care plans in line with disease management protocols, including screening, counselling and health education
• Admit, discharge and refer patients to other care providers as appropriate
• Record consultation notes clearly and code all clinical information
• Cover the duty (on-call) rota as required
• Take a fair share of non-patient facing work, including results and letters
• Work towards Quality and Outcome Framework and other local targets
• Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and take part in audit and service development
• Comply with the GP appraisal scheme and keep up lifelong learning
• Follow practice policies on prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and safeguarding
