Job summary

Leadgate Surgery in County Durham is recruiting a salaried GP to provide continuity of care, manage routine and urgent appointments, home visits, and remote consultations. The post is six sessions a week with a pro rata on-call rota, linking with Newcastle Medical School.

The ideal candidate will hold GMC registration, a CCT in General Practice or equivalent, and be committed to clinical governance and quality improvement within an NHS teaching practice.

Qualifications

• Must hold Full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
• Inclusion on the GMC General Practitioner Register is required.
• CCT in General Practice or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Membership of the NHS England Medical Performers List, as applicable, is preferred.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development in general practice.

Responsibilities

• Hold face‑to‑face and telephone consultations, assess symptoms, diagnose conditions and provide treatment.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions and coordinate ongoing patient care.
• Prescribe medications, including acute and repeat prescriptions, and review treatment plans safely.
• Refer patients to specialists and other healthcare services as clinically indicated.
• Provide preventative care, health promotion, screening, immunisations and patient education.
• Undertake home visits and respond to urgent medical problems and emergencies.
• Share in on‑call duties, including reviewing results, authorising prescriptions and actioning correspondence.
• Maintain accurate, coded clinical records and process reports and claim forms.
• Work collaboratively with nurses, pharmacists, other healthcare professionals and administrative staff.
• Take part in clinical meetings, audits, significant event reviews and quality improvement work.
• Deliver contractual general medical services, including any applicable additional or enhanced services.
• Manage patient caseloads, initiating, reviewing and concluding episodes of care.
