NHS Highland invites applications for Salaried GPs in Rural Practice in the Western Scottish Highlands. Two permanent posts are offered: one 36 hours per week and another 26 hours per week, with flexible discussion of alternate hours.
Salary ranges from £105,744 to £119,198 per annum. The practice covers remote communities across Morvern, Sunart and Ardnamurchan with a dispensing service and local multidisciplinary support.
Would you like to live and work in one of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Western Scottish Highlands? West Highland Medical Group is located in a beautiful and remote area of the West Highlands covering the Morvern, Sunart and Ardnamurchan peninsulas. This is a dispensing practice with consulting based in Acharacle, Lochaline, Strontian and Kilchoan covering approximately 1800 patients. Our nearest hospital is the Belford Hospital, located in Fort William. We would ideally be looking for an experienced GP candidate with skills, or an interest in developing skills, such as remote and rural medicine and pre-hospital emergency care (BASICS). There is no out of ours commitment with this post as this is covered by a team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners from the Rural Support Team. We currently undertake face to face and telephone appointments, usually available on the day and home visits when necessary.
Our team currently consists of an GP along with part-time Practice Nurse and Healthcare Assistant; fully supported by back office staff including trained Dispensers and Care Navigators. The Practice is also directly supported by a Practice Based Pharmacist, First Contact Physiotherapist, access to Primary Care Mental Health Team and Community Link Worker; along with an excellent wider community multidisciplinary team including District and MacMillan Nursing. In addition, Health Visitors, vaccination team, nurse specialists and midwives visit the surgeries from time to time depending on need and availability.
The healthcare professionals along with colleagues from social care currently meet up once a fortnight for a multi-disciplinary team meeting to discuss any patients requiring additional support. This meeting is a mix of face to face and via teams to enable maximum input from all teams.
The area is a very safe place to live and each area has a great community spirit. There are primary schools located in Kilchoan, Acharacle, Strontian and Lochaline along with a High School in Strontian making it an ideal area to bring up a family. You would have amazing scenery on your doorstep along with lots of outdoor activities and opportunities; or you could just soak up the tranquil atmosphere of the area.
The practice has links into two other nearby Board Managed (2c) practices in Mallaig and Ballachulish, and also active involvement with the local cluster group. This allows sharing of ideas and quality improvement work, alongside professional support.
As a Practice we pride ourselves on delivering a high standard of care for all our patients, ensuring they consistently receive the best possible treatment they need and deserve. The post will also offer plenty of opportunities to develop your professional interests and we very much welcome new ideas and input. If you would like to be part of this friendly and hardworking team in a stunning location and embrace the unique challenges and opportunities presented by a remote and rural practice then please get in touch.
