Job summary

AWE offers a 12-month Year in Industry Placement for a Conventional Safety Specialist at Aldermaston, near Reading, Berkshire. This office-based role sits within the Sustainability, Safety, Health, Environment and Quality function and supports the Safety Management System across the business.

As an Undergraduate, you will work with safety professionals and deployment teams to identify hazards, assess risks, implement controls and learn compliance while contributing to safety improvements and

Qualifications

• On track to achieve a minimum 2:2 in your degree by August 2027.
• Graduating in 2029 or 2030 and completing a placement year.
• Available to join AWE in August 2027.
• British National and able to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Undertake and support risk assessments to identify proportionate control measures.
• Support risk-based inspections in line with legislation and AWE policies.
• Apply assessment tools and interpret findings to support safe decision-making.
• Help deliver safety initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement across operational areas.
• Develop understanding of AWE's Safety Management System across projects and facilities.
• Build knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to AWE activities.
• Work with safety professionals, facility operators, project managers and other specialists.
• Communicate findings clearly and maintain accurate records.
