Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking an experienced Safeguarding Manager for its Adult Safeguarding Team. The role oversees safeguarding activity, coordinates referrals, and works in a multi-agency environment to deliver high-quality safeguarding responses.

You will chair meetings, support social workers, and drive continuous improvement across services. The post is permanent, full-time (37 hours) based at County Hall, Morpeth with hybrid working, and a starting salary of £51,928 rising to

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent professional qualification such as DipSW, CQSW, CSS).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualification Social Work experience, including safeguarding.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily safeguarding referrals, applying appropriate thresholds.
  • Assess and analyse risk, implementing effective safeguarding and safety planning.
  • Ensure a Making Safeguarding Personal approach is embedded in all practice.
  • Support and provide guidance to Social Workers within the team.
  • Oversee Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) activity and partnership working.
  • Identify and elevate immediate risks of harm where necessary.
  • Chair safeguarding meetings and contribute to multi-agency forums such as MARAC and MAPPA.
  • Undertake report writing and maintain accurate records using NCC systems.
  • Contribute to organisational safeguarding and service development.
  • Support the Team Manager in the day-to-day running of the team.

About the role

As a Safeguarding Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing and coordinating safeguarding activity across the service. You will work within a multi-agency environment, collaborating closely with partners including Northumbria Police, Health services, CNTW, Children's Services and other agencies to ensure effective safeguarding responses.

What we are looking for

We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and resilient Social Workers who are confident in making decisions and delivering high-quality safeguarding practice.
