Job summary

Barking & Dagenham College is seeking a dedicated Safeguarding Coordinator to join our safeguarding team. The role is full-time (36 hours per week) on a permanent contract, with a salary of £35,286–£38,268 per year including London Weighting.

Reporting to the Head of Safeguarding, you will manage safeguarding referrals, provide guidance to staff, and work with external agencies to secure positive outcomes for students.

Qualifications

• Experience in safeguarding roles andPrevent duty is essential.
• Experience in education environment preferred.
• Ability to manage complex workload and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide first point of contact for safeguarding enquiries from staff, parents or professionals.
• Implement college safeguarding policy and procedures.
• Act as Safeguarding Officer and maintain a caseload of referrals.
• Initiate and refer students to outside agencies and coordinate referrals.
• Provide support and advice to staff on safeguarding per policy.

You will join us on afull-time, 36 hpw, permanent contract and in return, we will offer a competitive salary of £35,286-£38,268 per annum inclusive of London Weighting.

TheSafeguarding Coordinatorrole:

Reporting to the Head of Safeguarding and/or the Director of Student Welfare & Support (DSL), the Safeguarding Co-ordinator will be responsible for ensuring that operational tasks related to Safeguarding are performed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.

The post holder will work closely with staff across the college, particularly the support and welfare team, to promote positive communications with external partners, and secure the best outcomes for students

Key Responsibilities of the role:

• Provide a first point of contact for safeguarding enquiries from staff, parents or professionals
• Implement Barking and Dagenham Colleges safeguarding/child protection policy and procedures
• Act as a Safeguarding Officer and maintain a caseload of safeguarding referrals
• Initiate and refer students to outside agencies and co-ordinate referrals
• Provide professional support, guidance, and advice to staff on safeguarding issues to ensure staff follow due process as per BDC policies and procedures

Our ideal Safeguarding Coordinatorshould have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• Have, or be willing to undertake, Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification
• English and Maths qualifications at level 2 or above
• Experience of working within a safeguarding role /prevent duty role and responding to safeguarding issues
• Experience of working in an education environment
• Experience of complex case management
• Able to exhibit a high level of communication, interpersonal and presentation skills and can liaise and work collaboratively with professionals from other agencies, managers, and key service stakeholders
• Ability to manage a complex workload including competing priorities, achieve targets and respond quickly and flexibly to changing needs and demands
